Aldeburgh Young Musicians - Physical Sound residential

Mark worked with choreographer Darren Ellis, folk duo The Askew Sisters, clarinettist Stuart King, Aldeburgh Young Musicians and DanceEast Academy exploring the sometimes mysterious and always exhilarating collaborative processes involved in creating new music and dance work from scratch. Exploring the shared language of music and dance in the creation of ideas in time and space, as well the points of departure, AYM composers and DEA choreographers created a group of new works in collaboration with their fellow performers and dancers. The project led to a performance of works-in-progress at the end of the residential course (Peter Pears Recital Room) and culminated in a performance at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich (Sunday 31 July).

Chamber works featured at King's Lynn Festival

Mark discusses his work with King's Lynn Festival Director Ambrose Miller as part of the Contemporary Consort's 11th annual concert. The programme will include two works by Mark - airs no oceans keep for piano trio and the yew's black fingers wag for clarinet and string trio. Following the concert there will be an opportunity to meet Mark and the musicians at a post-concert reception.

Mark has been announced as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales' new Resident Composer
June 2011
Mark has been appointed Resident Composer at the BBC National Orchestra of Wales from June 2011. Mark will be writing several new works for the orchestra and developing new projects in collaboration with the outreach department. Mark's first project is a new cello concerto entitled lyra which he is currently composing for the cellist Olly Coates.
